Al Brown Soup Competition

Please note, if you are having trouble viewing the video in Safari, make sure you're using Google Chrome browser.

To enter the Al Brown Soup competition, our aged care chefs were asked to create a nutritious and delicious soup recipe using Pure Foods Pureed or Minced & Moist as a soup base. On top of our soup base, they were allowed to use a maximum of 4 everyday ingredients plus seasoning.

A number of appetising entries were made, however, only the top 3 were taken to Al Brown for blind tasting and judging.

Congratulations to our top 3 finalists:

  • Butter Chicken Laksa by Purnima, Pinesong - Metlifecare

Al was blown away by the entries, comments like "crazy good" were being thrown around his rustic kitchen. The flavour packed recipes made judging tough for Al, it was no easy decision, but there was one soup which stood out from the rest.

The soup entry who was crowned the winner was *drum roll*... Beef Goulash by Marko from Charles Upham, Ryman Healthcare. Conragtulations Marko!

Your recipe was described by Al as having great depth of flavour, balance, richness and nutritious goodness - or in short "really stunning." Al's face says it all below with him holding Marko's winning soup.

For our other two finalists Michelle and Purnima, your awesome efforts have not gone unnoticed. You will receive Al Brown's latest cook book "Eat Up New Zealand" with a personalised message from Al inside - Enjoy!
