Delicious and Nourishing Food for People Receiving Head and Neck Cancer Treatment

A healthy, well-balanced diet plays a key role in promoting good health, but there are times during and after cancer treatment that it is difficult to eat enough to maintain your weight.

If you have lost weight, are losing weight or you have a poor appetite, you will benefit from choosing foods higher in protein and calories.

It is important  to maintain a balanced diet with a good intake of fruit and vegetables and plenty of starchy foods (potatoes, rice, pasta, breads, noodles) to give you energy. 

Good sources of protein include meats, fish, eggs, beans and pulses and dairy foods such as milk, cheese, yogurt.

If you are losing weight choosing full fat dairy foods and adding extra fats such as butter, cream, oil can boost the energy content of foods. 

The basic principles behind consuming food when fighting head and neck cancer include the following; eating small meals, 6-8 times a day that are rich in calories and protein; eating a variety of foods - textures, colours and flavours; carrying food with you at all times thus encouraging you to eat frequently helping to keep your energy up.
